A few years ago Richard Webber took a Lotus Evora, photographer Luc Lacey, Bob Smith and Coldstream's Kevin Younger with his Sunbeam MkIII to Stobs Camp. The outcome is a great story "Power Of Scotland" in Autocar 11th April 2018.
14th September 2021
By mid 1959 dismantling at Stobs was nearly complete (see M.G.C.C. Sprint report for 7th June 1959) This is the only remaining PoW barrack hut but despite this, from an archaeological point of view, Stobs is believed to be the most complete PoW / Internment camp. I've experienced the gaping hole in my knowledge of Stobs when visiting the site but there is a book "Stobs Camp Project" which will equip you to enjoy your visit, it's available to buy from the shop HERE. If you cannot wait or prefer not to, then there is a Heritage Trail App available at the storytelling platform https://izi.travel/en/e9f2-stobs-camp/en which is supported by a 3-part YouTube Walking Tour by Stobs Camp Project Officer Andrew Jepson of Archaeology Scotland LINK to Part 1 - I don't feel it's a "spoiler" for your visit.

This event is believed to be the first in 63 years of competition for Sir Alexander Miller's "Knobbly" Lister-Jaguar Chassis BHL 111. A simple list of the early events of this sports-racing car would in no way enlighten anyone to the names and cars this Lister-Jaguar has faced. These pages all the way to "POST 1968" contain the majority of its races and hill climbs in Scotland. Subsequently much has been said and published on what is now the most widely and regularly raced of all Lister-Jaguar sports-racing cars, and below are some of those books which give me immense pleasure and continue to be valuable references:-
Scottish Motor Racing and Drivers by Graham Gauld
Powered by Jaguar by Doug Nye
Lister-Jaguar. Brian Lister and the cars from Cambridge by Paul Skilleter
Archie And The Listers by Robert Edwards
Here at Heathfield some two years later on September 10th it was the turn of man rather than machine to start off on a more famous journey.
Nevertheless at the next Charterhall meeting on September 28th Ronnie Miller had eagerly entered BHL 111 in a race against formidable opposition in the form of Jim Clark, Ron Flockhart and Innes Ireland.

Contrary to this #67 entry, Innes Ireland drove his Lotus Eleven as reported below in "Champions At Charterhall". The car is registered XTG 100 and at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic was owned by Chris Davey. Charles Helps, a registrar with Historic Lotus Register, showed photos of the car at Castle Combe in the Winter 2022 edition of the HLR magazine. Here is another photo of Charles Helps showing the ex-Innes Ireland Lotus XI alongside the ex-Lewis Bramley Mark Nine (see Charterhall 26th August 1956).

The D-Type was registered as TKF 9 and the TR3 as RSC 190.
The new owner of the D-Type was reported in Vol 4, No.1 as Alan Ensoll to replace his Jaguar C Type sold to Tom Candlish.
Below is a photograph of Alan in his TKF 9 at Thornaby in 1960, Gordon Cruickshank in his December 1994 MotorSport Historic Focus on TKF 9 quotes Alan who had fond memories of the car. It was, he says, “in a hell of a state” — the oily bits were sound, but the shell was hammered. He rebuilt the monococque, using over 1000 rivets, and fitted a taller quick-release screen with wipers, and an XK-SS-style luggage rack, which meant removing the head-rest again. MlinkS
