The South of Scotland Car Club SOSCC has a very interesting and detailed history going back to 1951 with detailed descriptions of events from that inaugural year including the ongoing project alphabetical list of members achievements, some of whom came to Winfield and Charterhall e.g. Philip Denham-Cookes. There is a film of this meeting commissioned by St Andrew’s Motors (SAM) and produced by George Cummin and colleagues of the Newcastle & District Amateur Cinematographers Association (ACA). A detailed description of the sequences can be found on the Yorkshire Film Archive website - Film ID NEFA 21293 titled "Bonnets Over The Border (1951)" LINK.
I have been unable to watch this film however interspersed between the programme pages are some relevant notes from the Film Description
Film ID NEFA 21293: An opening shot records the Winfield paddock where caravans, tents and cars are parked. Spectators, drivers and mechanics mill around. The Jaguar racing car #16 driven by John Waugh is having a last minute tyre check. The crew of an MG competing in Event 5 check over the car. The Cooper #77 of Ninian Sanderson stands alone without crew or admirers. The J.W. Goodwin Healey #57 is surrounded by admirers, “a picture of gleaming sleekness” according to the commentator. The #18 car is also parked up ready for its event.
Film ID NEFA 21293: Cars begin to move up the grid for Event 1. Shots record cars racing past the grandstand of spectators, around the Horndean corner and straight into the hairpin bend. Scottish driver Ian Stewart’s #5 Jaguar wins the race. A. Dick Peddie brings down the flag on the competitors as they pass the finish line.

Film ID NEFA 21293: In the pits “Curly” Dryden is pointing at parts of his #41 JBS car's engine to Reg Parnell who chats with Dryden over the car as a cheeky-looking young lad stands beside them. Gillie Tyrer #23 in a BMW is given a push to the start. There’s a shot of car #83 (not in prog). Cars line up at the start of Event 2 which includes John Brown in an HWM. The starter brings down a Union Jack flag and the cars are away on the first of 25 laps. On the first lap, the Cooper entry, #10 John Brown and #82 Joe Kelly in an Alta are placed first. On the next lap Gillie Tyrer #23 is in the lead, Joe Kelly follows with John Brown in third place. Brown rounds Horndean corner, his car wiggling slightly. Two other drivers are neck and neck in the race. Next, John Brown passes by in the lead. Tyrer rounds a corner in the lead. Brown follows him down the straight. The commentator mentions a collision and Gillie Tyrer’s car then drives by with a bad dent finishing first.

As mentioned in the film notes for this race Archie Butterworth's #11 AJB was fitted with an air-cooled Austrian Steyr V8 giving 260bhp. This Grand Prix car was designed during the late forties in his spare time. With independently sprung chassis it had hydraulic brakes, three-speed gearbox and an ingenious four-wheel drive system of transfer box, centre differential and standard Jeep live axles. In 1952 he worked on a flat four air-cooled engine project with interchangeable cylinder barrels to alter the capacity. It is all the more remarkable that he was running in second place until engine trouble caused him to retire.
Film ID NEFA 21293: The flag drops and a standing start takes place with competitors running to their cars from a standing position, all cars are away for a 15 lap race. Curly Dryden’s car is being loaded into a truck. The cars round the circuit with #78 Melvin clipping the side of the track. The starter flag brings the race to a close.
